    Operators in Québec wishing to engage in short-term rentals are required to obtain classification by the CITQ (Corporation de l’industrie Touristique du Québec). Why is this required? CITQ classification serves two purposes: Protect tourists Foster a higher quality of accommodation By law, anyone offering tourist accommodation in Québec must hold classification certification for their property. NB: You need to check with your municipality whether your property is located in a sector where short-term rentals are allowed.

    Québec has a mandatory accommodation tax that varies from region to region. This tax serves to finance a tourism development fund established to develop Québec’s tourism industry. Every operator is required to register with Revenu Québec.

    Yes. Many insurance companies don’t cover properties used for short-term rentals. Check with your insurance agent whether you have the necessary coverage.
