HISTORICAL MONUMENTS

1. King's Way (Le Chemin du Roy)

Built in 1731, Chemin du Roy, linking Quebec City and Montreal, is the oldest carriageway in Canada. Along the banks of the St. Lawrence River, you will cross three of the most beautiful villages in Quebec. First Neuville, characterized by its hundred-year-old houses and its terraces facing the river. Then Cap-Santé, which prides itself on having one of the few churches in Quebec dating from the French Regime. Finally Deschambault-Grondines, where stand the Old Presbytery, built in 1815, and the magnificent Saint-Joseph Church. In the surrounding area, the Moulin de La Chevrotière and the Windmill of Grondines, classified as historical monuments, are must-sees.

2. Baronnie-de-Portneuf Manor (Portneuf)

The manor of Baronnie-de-Portneuf, a historic monument, is an old farmhouse that has become a seigniorial manor. It was built between 1762 and 1788, and extended in 1846. This one-and-a-half-storey rectangular house is topped with a gable roof pierced with dormer windows. Its walls are clad in clapboard and fitted with corner boards. The manor of Baronnie-de-Portneuf is located on an irregularly shaped piece of land, along the route of the old Chemin du Roy, in the municipality of Portneuf.

The mansion is recognized as a historic monument.

3. The Church of Sainte-Famille (Cap-Santé)

The church of Sainte-Famille, built between 1755 and 1762, is one of the last 12 still existing in Quebec dating back to the French Regime. In terms of activities held there, Cap-Santé is renowned for its famous Christmas of yesteryear, which takes place in the fall, and for its painting symposium. Rich in colors which opens the summer season and of an imposing volume, the stone building with high walls presents a Latin cross plan composed of a nave with a nave, a transept and a narrower chancel finished by a semicircular apse.

Its monumental facade, flanked by two towers surmounted by bell towers, is animated by a large door, three oculus and three niches in the gable. Rectangular in plan and one and a half stories high, it is topped, like the church, with a slightly upturned gable roof. Built in the heart of the old core of the city of Cap-Santé, it rises on a terrace near the St. Lawrence River.

This property is classified as a historical building.
